Think you are the project manager of multiple teams and there are individual SharePoint sites. You want to move the content from one SharePoint site to another SharePoint site.

Let’s say your first SharePoint site url is http://sharepoint.companyweb.com/it/telco, and another url is http://sharepoint.companyweb.com/it/cnn/sap. You want to move some content from the document library in the first link to another document library in the second link.

First thing is you need to map the SharePoint site with your windows explorer. Once it will attach as map drive, you can simply execute copy and paste operation as simple as between folders in windows explorer.

Below the steps describe how to add any Sharepoint site under your network place:

1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer (or right click on Start and click on explorer).

2. In the Folders list, click My Network Places.

3. Right click Add Network Place and select ‘Map Network Drive’.

4. In the Folder box, type the Web address of the source SharePoint site utl i.e. http://sharepoint.companyweb.com/it/telco . Please note here you need to place any page name i.e. default.aspx, and then click Finish.

5. In the Type a name for this network place box, type a name for your new network place, click Next, and then click Finish.

It will then open the SharePoint site in windows explorer. You can also check whether the new SharePoint site is mapped on My Computer / My Network Places.

Next, do the same process for the next SharePoint url. Now go to any map drive and browse the documents which you want to move. Simple copy paste, or drag and drop operation is well enough for your job.

Recommendation:

Instead of drag and , advise is to first copy from one location to another location, and then after reviewing the documents on new destination location, purge the same document on source location. This is because SharePoint is using some web services for the copy and delete operation. For the bulk movement, there would be high chance to be disconnected from network. In that original document could be loss without copying everything in destination.

Move document small part by part in copy and paste mode. If the operation is getting disconnected, still you can easily find where from you need to start.
